Omiokuri is an independent collection of English-language travel notes about lesser-known places in Japan. We begin in Tohoku, with room to explore beyond.

Useful details, clear sources.

We link practical information to official tourism bodies, local authorities or operators and state when it was checked. Our researched guides are not presented as personal visits.

About our images

Where we can, guides use real photographs that we are allowed to reuse, such as openly licensed images from Wikimedia Commons. Each photo is credited with its author and license under the image. When no such photo is available, we use an AI-generated illustration, clearly labelled as one; it does not show the actual destination. For more real views, follow the official source links in each guide.
